ESPN has updated it's evaluation on Montana State recruit Jeff Budinich. Here is what they say.
March, 2009: Budinich is one of the better sleepers in the west and a relative unknown outside of Washington. What standouts about his game is his ability to score in a variety of ways. He has a intriguing skill package that is quite versatile. He can be a potent scorer in the paint area and can knock down the mid-range jump shot with regularity. In addition, he can demonstrate his feel for the game with his ability to pass. One area of concern, however, is his effort level-he has a tendency to take plays off. With his ability to score inside and out, he should make an immediate
impact at Montana State.
They also update they evaluation score to a 70.
Here is what that means
70-79: Major/Mid-Major Prospect Player
either can earn a scholarship to a top national Division I program or contribute
significantly as a freshman at the mid-major level.

Montana State recruit Jeff Budinich played this past week end in the Cloud NineAll Star Game. His SPSL North all star team defeated the SPSL South all star team 163 -117, in a game that obviuosly featured very little defense. Jeff scored 16 points and had a 2 blocked shots. This is the final in a series of four posts on the Bobcat men’s basketball team, discussing the past season and a look ahead to next season. Part 1 Season Wrap up, Part 2 Look ahead: Big men, Part 3 Look Ahead: Wing players and Part 4 Look Ahead: Recruits.
Last fall Coach Huse only signed one athlete during the early signing period, with that being freshman forward Jeff Budinich, but since then he has received to verbal commitments from Whitefish’s Colt Idol and Northern Idaho CC’s Michael Swita. Budnich, a 6-10 ½ forward from Kentlake Washington, has a chance to contribute next year, because of his offensive skills. The areas that he will need to develop and work on this spring and summer are his defense, strength and conditioning. Still prior to the season he showed enough improvement to these areas that he has turned his head with his improvements. He also has had the advantage of playing against and with some of the best high school big men in the country. Colt Idol comes from an excellent Montana high school program and is an athletic guard who can score inside or out, still it is almost guaranteed that he will redshirt next year with roster of guard returning and coming off of redshirt years next year. Michael Swita is the one guy that is guaranteed not to redshirt next year. He redshirted the 2007-08 season. He is also the guy I have the most questions about. #1 will he be healed up and ready to go next year. As of about a 1-2 month back he was still struggling with his knee injury, but I was assured by someone close to the situations that he would be set to go by spring. The second question revolves around, Swita who is from France, has only played two years of organized basketball before coming to the Unite
d States, and then since coming to the States he has been limited by injuries. If ready to go the 7-0 Swita will give us a true center in the middle who can bang. He can also score out to about 15 feet and is a very good passer. For the spring signing period, in addition to signing Swita, and Idol, I believe the coaches primary focus is on recruiting a point guard, but I believe they have keeping their thumbs in with a few big men. Most of the point guards I have heard they were involved with have been high school kids, but I believe they have also looked at a few JC’s. Most of the big men they are involved with are people they were looking at in the fall, and they may be keeping involved in case something happens with Swita, who remember has not officially signed with the Cats. Purely speculation here but if Swita continues to have problems with his knee I would not be surprised if he decided to bag it and return to France.

SPSL main challenge will come from their own conference, from the SPSL south all star team. Incidentally for Griz fans I am told Eric Hutchison and a couple of his Mark Morris team-mates were invited to joined the 2A All-Star team but turned it down,

Jeff Budinich KentLake’s team finished the season 8-11, in possibly one of the toughest conference in the nation. Jeff averaged 16.5 points a game, 12 rbs, 2.1 blocks a game. He went against future D-1 big man almost every night including the #1 rated big man the 2010 class. Despite being 6-10, Jeff will not be a center in college, he is a very skilled forward who when he steps on the floor for the Cat’s may be the best three point shooter on the team. I had one of the coaches invoke the name of Domako when they talked about him. He is not a Domako but he is a similar. The big knock on Jeff coming into the season was his defense and willingness to play inside. Jeff put on some muscle over the summer, and developed some post moves and really made strides this winter. There are rumors of a monster dunk he had over Josh Smith (the above mentioned #1 rated big man) that I am trying to find a copy of video. Jeff has the offensive and passing skills to contribute as a true freshman, but, will need to continue his work in the weight room. He has the size 6-10 225lbs, he just needs to make the transition to the college game.
Michel Swita committed to the Bobcat’s in December. He is a 7-0 245 center, who is on the roster of North Idaho JC and originally hails from
Colt Idol also committed to the Bobcats in late December. Colt is a 6-3 guard from Whitefish, who has been averaging 20 points, 6 rbs, 2.3 ast, 2 stls, 50% fg, 33% 3fg, and 81%ft. Whitefish is still in the class A title hunt. Colt scoring is down a little from last year but I hear he is but has been working much harder on defense. Colt is a pretty good athlete with great springs, and likes to post up smaller players. He has decent 3 point range but is not a pure shooter. I have been told he reminds some of former Bobcat Pete Conway. I would expect him to redshirt next year with depth the Cat’s have at the guard position next year. He could though make an impact on the 2010-11 team.
The following is a list on basketball prospects that I have heard that the Grizzlies may be looking at. This is not a complete list by any means. There are also most likely some names on this list who they are either not recruiting any more or who they were not recruiting at all. This list is culled from multiple sources, including published accounts and word of mouth. I will up date this list from time to time.
