The Bobcat’s have been recruiting Shawn Grant of St. Francis high school in Mountain View California since last spring, and he still appears to be on their short list this spring. Grant’s recruiting has been a rather curious affair. The 6-4 Grant had a nice junior season, but really stepped it up his senior year averaging 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assist, 2 steals while shooting 40% from 3 point land. He is a pretty athletic player featuring 36 inch vertical and good quicks. He also has an excellent student. He was both all leaguing first team as well as All-Mercury News Boys Basketball first team. Here is what the Mercury News had to say about him:

SHAWN GRANT, ST. FRANCIS
Guard, 6-4, sr.
Grant was the go-to man in crunch time for the Lancers, who won a share of the West Catholic Athletic League title by beating Sacred Heart Cathedral in the WCAL tournament final. Grant delivered a clutch fadeway jumper late in the game to put the Lancers ahead. The co-MVP of the WCAL has a scholarship offer from Toledo and averaged 15.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as the Lancers won the Central Coast Section Division II title before advancing to the NorCal final
.

He was also named to the Nor-Cal Preps top 10 players (along with Montana recruit Will Cherry) in northern California. Here is what they had to say about Grant

Guard: SHAWN GRANT
Senior, St. Francis Grant closed out an impressive senior year with a 24 point performance against Rocklin. The WCAL Co-Player of the Year led the Lancers to one of the regions most impressive turnarounds.

Now despite this from what I am hearing Grant’s only offer so far this spring is from Toledo, although Nevada, UAB, Loyola Chicago, Montana State and Davidson are still involved. It would seem to me that a kid with his credentials would be a little more hotly recruited, it will be interesting to see what happens.
