Earlier this winter, North Idaho JC point guard 5-11 Melvin Jones committed to Portland State, with the intention of signing a letter of intent this Wednesday. Prior to committing he had been also recruited by Montana, Weber State, CS Fullerton and San Diego. I have been told, that since Ken Bone accepted the Washington State head coaching position, a lot of schools have been inquiring whether Jones is still planning to honor his commit to Portland State. Among the schools inquiring is/was Montana. During his original recruiting process Montana was considered a leader for his services. Jones has had a great year at NIC and has really improved his stock this winter and is now considered to be one of the best scoring point guards in the west. I do not have any concrete info on what his plans are but, I am told that if Portland State hires Bones lead assistant, it is highly likely Jones will sign with PSU. Another possibility is that Jones could look to see if he could follow Bone to Washington State, but it is not sure whether WSU needs a point at this point. The final option would be to re-open his recruitment where he would attract a lot of interest.

Melvin Jones averaged 14 points, 5 assists 2 steals and 3 rebounds while shooting 48% from the field and 48% from 3 point, this season for North Idaho earning first team all conference. NIC placed 5 players on the all-conference team including MVP Renado Parker, and they should put 4 players this year in D-1 schools and 2 next year off this team.
